Itaú Cultural is presenting the 11th edition of its Ocupação program, which is dedicated to Ballet Stagium, one of Brazil’s foremost dance companies. Curated by Edgard Duprat, Carlos Gardin and Pedro Markun, the exhibition looks back upon 40 years of the Group’s history, since the moment when it was set up and coordinated by dancers Décio Otero and Marika Gidali. By paying tribute to Stagium, the Institute hopes to encourage a number of target audiences to familiarize themselves with and broaden their experience of the universe of this significant exponent of Brazilian culture.
Ocupação will be an innovative exhibition model that will privilege the memory and the future of dance. The Project is unique in that it constructs personalized spaces with each new edition, and produces special publications such as fanzines, hot sites, catalogs and magazines.
The audience in this exhibition is invited to learn about Stagium’s trajectory by moving onto and taking over the stage setting created by Carlos Gardin and Marcelo Larrea, where hundreds of videos of scenes from shows, rehearsals, classes, tours and open-air presentations will be shown. Edgard Duprat has collected and edited the series of audiovisual records throughout the group’s history.
