By means of the Ocupação series, Itaú Cultural delves into the life, work and creative process of contemporary artists active in various areas of expression, honoring and highlighting the importance of their careers. The lyrical, playful, epic and political world of musician Jards Macalé is the subject of the program’s 18th edition.
In addition to occupying the institute’s headquarters with an exhibition on the instrumentalist, composer and performer from Rio, the project extends onto the internet. The hotsite contains and expands on some of the issues dealt with in the exhibition and opens up for the public to interact – with texts, photos, videos, drawings…- about their personal relationship with Macalé’ work. Or with Macalé himself.
Writer and visual artist Lourenço Mutarelli – who is responsible for curating the show along with the Itaú Cultural – has created the adventures of superhero Makalé, present in the exhibition as well as the pages of the publication and website.
